Three-Star Offensive Lineman Deondre Buford Commits to Kentucky

Kentucky added another commitment to their 2020 recruiting class today, as offensive tackle Deondre Buford committed to the Wildcats over an offer sheet that included LSU, Tennessee, Penn State, and others. The 6-foot-5, 270-pound tackle is a great addition to the class, as he becomes the third offensive lineman to join the blue and white.

Buford is a bit undersized on the offensive line at the tackle spot, but it is similar to how Deandre Square came in as a Michigan native undersized, however, playing much bigger than advertised when on the field. Square showed that grit as an undersized linebacker, getting valuable playing time as a true freshman, and that could be a solid trend for players the staff is looking for out of that specific pipeline.

On film, you wouldn’t be able to tell Buford is undersized, and of course, the staff will change that conception within a year or two of workouts. I think early in the recruiting process, the staff lost Richie Leonard, and Buford is a similar prospect when it comes to athleticism. Buford is impressive making blocks down the field on screen play designs, and he is also effective in possible pulling situations. He excels in pass pro, but will need to improve his technique, and as a run blocker in the future.

Kentucky added a solid piece to this already exceptional class. There are a few more pieces on the staff’s boards that could really set this class apart from their recent ones. Mark Stoops and company are putting together something special, as the Kentucky football program continues to make significant strides upward.
