Three-Star Safety Rickey Hyatt Commits to Kentucky

September 18, 2019

Mark Stoops and company continue their recent streak of commits by adding the 17th member of their 2020 class, this time it is a future safety. Three-star Rickey Hyatt is a special talent, out of Westerville Central, in Ohio, which sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Yes, that is where Benny Snell came from. Hyatt chose Kentucky over Ohio State, Michigan State, and others.

The staff is getting a playmaker at safety, standing at 6-foot-2, 190-pounds. Hyatt brings great speed and length to the back end. Last season, as a Junior, Hyatt finished the year with 94 tackles, four tackles for loss, three interceptions, and a forced fumble. He impressed in his time on the other side of the football as well. Hyatt had 53 carries, 407 yards, and five touchdowns as a running back.

Hyatt will have to get stronger when entering the SEC. On film, he makes plays and has a good physical edge to him, but he could work on his tackling technique and maybe improve as a ball hawk. However, those are areas he can improve on once he gets with the team. Above all, Kentucky got a special rangy talent in the secondary.

The Wildcats have a top 20 class in college football, and they show no signs of slowing down. Kentucky has a solid forecast for the future, with an already special group of talent. Possible future additions could maybe land them amongst the top 10 or 15 teams in the country.
