Kentucky Gets Back to .500 Against Indiana, Wins 5-2

Kentucky dropped two of three at home to Arkansas over the weekend but looked to bounce back against Indiana on Tuesday to try and build some momentum before their upcoming South Carolina series. Indiana came into the game having hit 81 home runs in just 47 games, leading the nation in home runs per game.

Jimmy Ramsey, the 6'9" sophomore from Minnesota, was tasked with shutting down the high-powered Indiana offense despite giving up four home runs and twelve runs in just six innings in his past two outings. The sophomore bounced back in a big way, throwing four innings and striking out seven while allowing one run. Overall, Kentucky's pitching staff held Indiana to just two runs on five hits while striking out fifteen.
Kentucky mustered only six hits but used two Indiana errors and seven walks to plate five runs. Ryan Johnson led off for Kentucky and went 0-0 on the day with four walks and scored three runs. He scored his first run on a wild pitch to put the Cats on the board. That same wild pitch saw Ryan Shinn score from second, putting Kentucky up 2-0 after one.
In the third, Indiana scored on a two-out single to centerfield that got lost in the evening sun. Kentucky added two more runs to their 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth on a single by Elliott Curtis and a throwing error by the IU catcher. Indiana got one run back in the top of the seventh, but Kentucky responded with a run of its own in the bottom of the inning to push the score to 5-2. Kentucky sophomore Trip Lockhart got his first save of his career, shutting the door on the Hoosiers in the final two innings of the game.

Interesting Tidbits:
Kentucky scored a run in its 112th consecutive game, continuing to build on the second longest streak in school history.
Beau Allen, the Lexington Catholic QB who committed to Kentucky on Monday, was in attendance as well. To read more about his commitment, check out our recap: 4-Star Quarterback Beau Allen Commits to Kentucky
