Schaper's Grand Slam gets Kentucky seventh straight win in home opener

Kentucky hosted Miami (OH) in their home opener at John Cropp Stadium in Lexington Tuesday night. Jenny Schaper hit two home runs, including a grand slam and Tatum Spangler pitched her first complete game as #15 Kentucky won their seventh straight game 9-1 in only five innings over the Miami Redhawks. Kentucky improves to 16-7 and Miami falls to 10-8 overall.

Miami would score their only run of the game in the top of the first inning on a RBI double. (Miami 1, Kentucky 0). Jenny Schaper got Kentucky on the board by tying the game up on a lead-off home run. Kayla Kowalik and Abbey Cheek singled in the infield and Mallory Peyton brought Kayla home on a RBI to right field. (Kentucky 3, Miami 1).  Kentucky scored in the bottom of second as Bailey Vick tapped home on a RBI double by Kayla Kowalik. (Kentucky 4, Miami 1). With bases loaded in third on a single by Katie Reed and a walk to Sarah Rainwater and an advancement on a fielder’s choice by Lauren Johnson. With only two out Jenny Schaper hits a grand slam to extend the lead by 7. (Kentucky 8, Miami 1) Kayla Kowalik capped her day off with a single into left center gap to score in Bailey Vick for the win.
