Kentucky started SEC play with a 3-0 sweep over South Carolina in SEC Opening weekend in South Carolina.

Kentucky Freshman pitcher, Meghan Schorman held one of the best offenses in the country to only one run as she earned her first career SEC win in #18 Kentucky’s 5-1 win over #11 South Carolina for the sweep of the series. Meghan threw 91 pitches to 25 batters allowing just one run. She walked four batters and struck out two. Kentucky never trailed in the series.

In the top of the second inning on a first and third situation, Kentucky would get on the board by Katie Reed stealing second and baiting a throw to the base which allowed Jaci Babbs to score. Reed advanced to third on an error and she was brought home on a sacrifice fly to right. (UK 2, USC 0). Lauren Stewart scored the only run for the Gamecocks on a solo home run to center field. (UK 2, USC 1). Kentucky’s Alex Martens hits a two run home run, scoring herself and Abbey Cheek who singled to lead off the fourth inning. (UK 4, USC 1). With the bases loaded for Kentucky and no outs, Abbey Cheek hit into a double play scoring Sarah Rainwater from third, who earlier hit  a double to right center (UK 5, USC 1)

Final #18 Kentucky 5, #11 South Carolina 1

Kentucky improves to 15-7 overall and 3-0 in SEC. South Carolina falls to 18-5 overall and 0-3 in SEC.
