#19 Kentucky wins first game in the Coach B Classic against Saint Louis

The Kentucky softball team took on Saint Louis University during the Coach “B” Classic in Chattanooga, TN on Friday afternoon. They were supposed to take on Southern Illinois this morning but due to weather issues, the game was not played and, Saint Louis was their only game of the day. Kentucky defeated Saint  Louis 10-0 to win their first game of the classic.

Abbey Cheeks singled through the left side in the top of the first to score Jenny Schaper and Katie Reed. Later, Cheek came around to score on an Alex Martens right field single (Kentucky 3, SLU 0). In the top  of the second, Bailey Vick led off with an infield single, stole  second and third and came home on a wild pitch (Kentucky 4, SLU 0). Cheek led off the third with a walk and came around to score on a bases-loaded groundout, with one out off the bat by Sarah Rainwater. (Kentucky 5, SLU 0). Katie Reed and Abbey Cheek both singled in the fourth inning and Alex Martens hit a home run to right field on a missile. (Kentucky 8, SLU 0). Kennedy Cowen walked in the fifth with bases loaded and the Cats add a second run to end the game in five innings.

Final- #17 Kentucky 10, Saint Louis 0 (5 innings)

Kentucky will play host to Southern Illinois at 2:30 p.m. ET, followed by Murray State at 4:45 p.m. ET tomorrow.
