First Day of Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic rained out

February 21, 2019

The Kentucky Softall team began play in the Mary Nutter College Classic on Thursday with a match-up against North Carolina. The game was stopped in the fifth inning due to rain and the conclusion time has not yet been announced.

The Tar Heels were able to get a runner on in the first, but Jenny Schaper caught the base runner trying to steal second to end the inning. The Cats were unable to add any runs of their own in the first and the pitchers dual was officially on.

The Cats finally broke through on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second on an RBI double to left by Lauren Johnson.

Neither team would score again before the game would be delayed due to weather. With Kentucky batting in the bottom of the fifth the weather became too much for the umpires to allow the game to continue.

The Cats were scheudled to take on Bethune-Cookman on Thursday night as well, but the game wasa cancelled due to the weather. At this time there has been no official word as to when the game against UNC will conclude, and Kentucky’s schedule for their Friday games has been altered.
