Kentucky closes out third day with loss to Texas and win over Oregon

February 16, 2019

The Wildcats started their third day of the Elite Invitational Saturday morning against Texas and went to face Oregon in the afternoon. Kentucky dropped the first game to Texas 4-3 and defeated Oregon 12-3 in the second game.

Mallory Peyton’s 7th inning blast over the left field fence tied the game at 3 and gave the Cats a second life until Kaitlyn Washington found a hole through the right side of the infield to give Texas a walk-off win in this matchup of two Top 25 teams.

Grace Baalman was a star in the circle for UK, throwing a complete game on 134 pitches, allowing just three unearned runs. The sophomore recorded five strikeouts and allowed nine hits.

With one out in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Wildcats appeared to have the second out of the inning on a routine grounder – but after an umpire conference, the play was overturned – and the Longhorn batter was put on first base. That run came around and ended up tying the game late in the sixth. Baalman got out of the jam with a strikeout.
