The Kentucky Women’s Basketball team traveled to the St. Thomas Islands for the 2018 Paradise Jam. The Lady Cats look to improve to 5-0 in the 2018 season.

Freshman, Rhyne Howard drains a 3 to start the game off. Kentucky has control early, and led by as much as five. The Cats were led by strong defense throughout the first quarter. South Florida’s went on a run and took advantage of Kentucky’s inability to finish at the rim. The Cats needed to do a better job by finishing up their layups to win the game.. Kentucky and South Florida are all tied up at 20 at the end of the 1st quarter.

Kentucky 20, USF 20 End 1st Quarter

Early in the second quarter, it became obvious this would be a physical game.. Taylor Murray lead Kentucky with 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 block. Amanda Paschal, brough a spark and alot of controlled energy to the game. She provided 3 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1 steal. Kentuky lead by 16 at the half, holding South Florida to only 8 points in the 2nd quarter..  Time to catch a breath and regroup after a much physical and energetic 1st hlaf.

Kentucky 44, USF 28 Halftime

USF started the quarter on a 10-9 run. Howard hit  a 3 forcing USF into a time out. Roper knocked down a 3 to match the longest Kentucky lead of 18.  Kentucky gained their largest lead of the game at 21 points to end the 3rd quarter.

Kentucky 65, USF 44 End 3rd Quarter

The Cats brought a lot energy  in the final  quarter and stretched  out the lead to 25. Kentucky was led by fantastic performances by freshman Howard and senior Murray, posting 18 and 17 points, respectively. Nine of eleven Wildcats who earned minutes posted points, 23 were scored by the bench, and Jaida Roper posted 13 alone. Kentucky defeated #17 USF earning its first win over a ranked opponent since the 2016-2017 season. A statement game and a wonderful start to the 2018 Paradise Jam for the Cats to keep a winning streak going to start the 2018 season.

The Cats take on UCLA tomorrow at 1 p.m.

Final Kentucky 85, #17 USF 63
