Kentucky Has a Point Guard! TyTy Washington Commits to the Cats

Kentucky Basketball has gone through a lot of changes over the past few months. Players have declared for the draft, the coaching staff has shuffled, a recruit has decommitted, and multiple players have decided to transfer in. It is clear that Calipari is not content with the state of the program following his first losing season at Kentucky, and the changes reflect that. Calipari seems to have answered almost every major question asked of him by the fan base, save for one. Will you ever prioritize shooting? Cal went out and got multiple high-level shooters. Check. Have you lost a step in recruiting? Cal brought back Orlando Antigua and brought Chin Coleman (a highly-regarded assistant coach with tons of AAU/High School ties). Check. Can you keep the depth pieces from transferring? Dontaie Allen, Jacob Toppin, and Lance Ware are all officially back with several others (mainly Mintz and Brooks) still potentially ending up on this team. The one final question he needs to answer is a simple one - who is going to play point guard?

Well, today we got at least part of that answer with the commitment of 5-Star guard TyTy Washington. The 6-3 guard from Chandler, AZ will be the next in a long line of Calipari PGs looking to make an instant impact at Kentucky. He’s excellent at controlling pace, has a smooth, repeatable jumper and can play both on and off ball.

Washington chose Kentucky over Arizona, Kansas, and LSU. He is coming off a trip to Memphis for the Iverson classic, where he showed off his ability to play on and off the ball. Excelling at setting up his teammates, TyTy is also a capable scorer at multiple levels. He won the three point contest at the event and showed the ability to play with pace or take his time when running an offense.

Kentucky still has room to work on the backcourt as well, likely adding Georgia transfer Sahvir Wheeler to be the other lead guard for the Cats at some point in the near future.
