YAHTZEE! x2: 4-Star Wade Twins Choose Kentucky over Tennessee

April 16, 2021

Kentucky has always pitched their football team as a family, but today they delivered on that pitch as literally as possible, securing the commitment of Keaten and Destin Wade, 4-star twins from Tennessee.  The Wade twins picked the Cats over Tennessee, Virginia, and Louisville and kick off what should be a historic weekend for Kentucky football. This is also another example of Steve Clinkscale pulling in high-level talent for Kentucky, dipping into Tennesee rather than his usual Michigan stomping grounds.

Keaten is a 4-star linebacker, and the higher-ranked of the two brothers, listed at 6-5 and weighing 225 pounds, should be instant competition in an OLB group that will see at least one departure next year with Jordan Wright graduating. He is the 156th player in the country, according to Rivals, and is the 18th best OLB.

Destin is listed as an athlete but plays QB for Summit High School and will likely have a shot at the position in college. Smaller than his brother, Destin comes in at 6-3, 205 and will be a true dual-threat quarterback. His film shows a dynamic runner who is deadly in the read option and a live arm with a quick release. Wade will likely be able to sure up his footwork in college but could be an exciting addition to the quarterback room, immediately coming in as one of the most athletic QBs from the jump. Interestingly, his game is very similar to former UK recruit Gavin Wismatt, who recently committed to Rutgers.

Kentucky jumps into the top 20 nationally with the pledges of the Wade twins in the 2022 class, something that would be even higher if Jackson Smith's national ranking was reflective of his actual talent. Kentucky now sits at seven commitments, including a top kicker/punter in the country, a 4-star offensive lineman, and multiple highly-ranked defensive backs. This also sets the table for the potential commitment of offensive tackle Kiyaunte Goodwin, a top-60 player nationally.
