Yahtzee! In-State Kicker Jackson Smith Commits to Kentucky

April 8, 2021

Kentucky has been red hot on the recruiting trail, something that looks to continue into mid-April. They have added two major gets from the ‘22 Kentucky class in Treyveon Longmire and Grant Bingham. Stoops and Co took a break from the offense and defense to reel in a special teams Yahtzee, securing the kicking game for the foreseeable future with the commitment of Jackson Smith, who announced today on Kentucky Sports Radio.

Smith, a Danville, KY native, kicks and punts for Boyle County and is the son of former All-SEC Punter at Kentucky, Andy Smith. He first burst onto the local recruiting scene after posting a video of himself hitting an in-game 51-yard field goal as an eighth-grader. He has since earned a 5 star ranking from in both kicking and punting, the only player in their 2022 class to do so.

In his sophomore season, he was 8-8 on field goals and 88-90 on PATs while averaging over 43 yards per punt. When asked by Sam Warren of the Harrodsburg Herald, Smith pointed to his accuracy as what sets him apart from the other top kicking prospects in his class, something that should be very exciting to the BBN given the struggles in the kicking game since Austin MacGinnis graduated. He also says that he feels comfortable from 50 and in, with the goal to continue to expand that range.

Smith is the 5th commit in the 2022 class, but Kentucky is looking to keep the dice hot as we have multiple major decisions coming up, including the Wade twins on the 16th and Kiyaunta Goodwin on the 17th.
