Kentucky Accepts Bid to TaxSlayer Gator Bowl

December 20, 2020

According to Brett McMurphy, Kentucky accepted a bid on Selection Sunday to appear in the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida. The Wildcats last appeared in the bowl game at the end of the 2016 season, where they fell 33-18 to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. On this return trip, they’ll be looking for their fifth win of the season against an NC State team that finished 8-3 and ranked #24 in the nation.

The Wolfpack is coached by Dave Doeren, who’s in his seventh year as head coach. The Wolfpack notched ranked wins against #24 Pittsburgh and #21 Liberty this season, in addition to six other in-conference wins. The NC State offense performed consistently better than Kentucky’s this season, ranking 45th in scoring offense while Kentucky finished 107th, but the Wildcat defense holds a slight edge over the Wolfpack, finishing 47th nationally in scoring defense while NC State finished 67th

The Gator Bowl is scheduled for noon EST on January 2nd as the opener of a high-quality slate of games featuring the Outback, Fiesta, and Orange Bowls later in the day. Kentucky Athletics will have information coming soon for ticket availability.

The Gator Bowl has still not officially announced the matchup. As we saw last year, it’s very possible for there to be some last minute changes.

It’s official! Wildcats vs Wolfpack in the Gator Bowl.
