NCAA D1 Extends Recruiting Dead Period

September 18, 2020

On September 16th the D1 Council extended the recruiting dead period, once again. The dead period will now be extended through January 1st. The move comes due to the NCAA’s extended concern over the COVID-19 virus, as the council has been monitoring and reviewing the dead period since April.

The council also implemented a temporary ban of schools giving complimentary game tickets to recruits through Jan. 1.

Council chair M. Grace Calhoun says on the move, “ While the Council acknowledged and appreciates the growing desire to resume in-person recruiting by select coaches’ associations, Council members ultimately concluded the primary concern right now must be protecting the current student-athletes on our campuses.”

Although this was surely a tough decision on the NCAA’s front, it continues to keep student-athletes safe from COVID-19 as much as possible. With this, the majority of coaches' associations supported the extension of the dead period by the NCAA.
