SEC Tournament is Cancelled due to COVID-19

March 12, 2020

Kentucky’s final memory from the 2019-2020 basketball season might be their 18-point comeback against Florida. After announcing on Wednesday night that fans were not going to be allowed to attend games, the SEC announced it was canceling the remainder of the SEC tournament Thursday around noon.

"Based on the latest developments and the continued spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Southeastern Conference today announced the cancellation of the remainder of the 2020 Men’s Basketball Tournament in Nashville," the SEC issued in a statement.

While there is no official word on the status for the NCAA tournament, it is hard to imagine it will be played. As of 12:20 pm, every major conference except the Big East has canceled its tournament. Creighton and St. Johns tipped off at Noon, and could potentially be the final basketball game of the season.
