In His Own Words: Why Marrow is Staying at Kentucky

February 15, 2020

Vince Marrow, who agreed to stay at Kentucky after being courted heavily by Michigan State, was available at halftime of the Ole Miss basketball game. He touched on how excited he was to be back, how close he came to leaving, and what ultimately kept him here.

Vince said that he was incredibly excited about the direction the program was going and said that it meant a lot that the University was willing to make the investment to keep him here. When asked about how close he was to leaving, Marrow said he was very close and that he was extremely close to Mel Tucker.

He later talked about his friendship with Mark Stoops and the bond he has with the "red-haired guy." Marrow said, "friendship is something that you can take for granted," but was touched by the family atmosphere that the Kentucky program has established. He said he had a lot of hard conversations with Stoops, and even received a touching text message from Stoops' uncle urging him not to leave.

Keeping Marrow will surely be a selling point on the recruiting trail, especially as Michigan State tries to make its way into Ohio. This isn't groundbreaking, but keeping Marrow is huge for the future of the program and the Big Blue Nation is lucky to have the Big Dog back alongside his red-haired friend.
