Before Kentucky Head Coach Mark Stoops hired Wide Receivers coach, Michael Smith, the Cats didn’t recruit have much of a recruiting presence in Louisiana. With the addition of new wide receivers coach, recruiting in Louisiana has become a priority. Coach Smith recently extended an offer to the 5-foot-11, 170-pound, General Trass (La.) defensive back, Fred Kelly. He also holds offers from Indiana, Oregon State, and several smaller schools.

Kelly talks about his first SEC offer coming from Kentucky.

“I’ was surprised to be honest when I got told Kentucky offered me as a defensive back.”

The General Trass junior says he doesn’t know much about Kentucky at this time.

“I don’t know much about them right now, but I will soon,” said Kelly.

He breaks down his visit plans for this summer.

“I’ll be visiting Kentucky, Mississippi State, Louisiana Tech, Tulane, LSU, and SMU. I haven’t made my camp schedule yet.”

Kelly said he doesn’t know the dates of these visits, but did say the Kentucky visit will happen soon.

“Yes, sir! I’ll be visiting Kentucky soon, just haven’t set a date in stone yet.”

The junior standout said he is going to cut his list down to his top six schools on his birthday.

“On May 17th, my birthday I am cutting my list down to the top six schools.”

Even though Kentucky just entered the mix for Kelly, he admits, Kentucky could be one of his top six schools.

“Yes, Sir! It’s a possibility that Kentucky will be one of my top six schools, even though, I don’t know much about them and they just offered me.”

Kelly said he wants to make his college decision during his senior season.
