Tyrese Maxey is coming to Kentucky!! The Garland, Texas native commits to Kentucky, joining fellow 2019 point guard Ashton Hagans in doing so.
None of this was on anyone’s radar until roughly a month ago. Coach Calipari moved quickly to make it possible in his shrewdest move since becoming the pioneer of the One-and-Done era. As Duke and others have begun to beat the Wildcats for top-tier recruits, UK needed an edge. That edge has become circumventing the recruiting wars waged over the next year or so by convincing recruits to come and play now (until Coach K does it and gets all the accolades with none of the admonishment).
The 6’3” prospect is actually considered the #2 PG (#13 overall) behind Hagans in 2019. While it is likely Hagans reclassifies to the 2018 class, Maxey will remain in the 2019 class. Regardless of when he comes, Maxey is a huge get for Cal, not only due to his on-court talents but also considering 2019 #1 overall player, James Wiseman, has stated he would like to play college basketball with Maxey (as well as Ashton Hagans). At this time, Maxey is the third 2019 commit for Kentucky, along with Hagans and big man D.J. Jeffries.
