Kentucky Baseball already has a tall pitcher, Sean Hjelle is 6’11” and dominant.  Now Kentucky has another tall pitcher on the way.  Nick Mingione received a commitment from 6’7″ Jimmy Ramsey.  Ramsey is a great prospect on the mound and at the plate.

Ramsey was committed to Oregon but decided to come to Lexington.  The scouting report on Ramsey is as follows:

“Jimmy Ramsey is a 2017 RHP/1B/3B with a 6-6 210 lb. frame from Tonka Bay, MN who attends Minnetonka HS. Ramsey has a large frame with room to fill out. throws downhill with a medium arm action to a 3/4 arm slot.

Good tempo and quick worker, commands outer half well, mixes a 12/6 curveball with good shape and spin and gets solid extension on change up. Likes to attack with the fastball.

Hit from a slightly open stance, short to ball with good extension through the ball. Makes good pull side contact and shows power potential. Defensively, sure actions, good coming off base and accurate throws on move.”

Ramsey can come in and make an immediate impact with his arm and his bat.  While he plays First Base normally when not pitching, he does have enough speed to possibly play a corner outfield spot.

Ramsey showed off those skills at the plate in a home run derby.  The hitting starts around the 5:30 mark if you want to fast forward to it.
