Was Saturday’s victory over West Virginia the seminal moment of this season? Have the Wildcats put it all together? Was Saturday an outlier? We will be in a position to better answer these questions after tonight, when UK will take on Vanderbilt at 9:00pm in Rupp. Even if it was a glimpse, Saturday’s performance was tantalizing as everything seemed to click and everyone stepped their game up against a tough ‘Press’ Virginia team. Vanderbilt has appeared to be pretty toothless this season, but they do have SEC-seasoned guards Riley LaChance and Matthew Fisher-Davis to keep them in the game. Seeing is believing, and after Kentucky’s recent performance I’m setting the Calipari worry meter at 1/5.
•Kevin Knox was named National Player of the week after his record setting performance over the weekend.
•First Boogie and now Wall? After Cousins recently tore his Achilles, it was announced that John Wall will be out two months after knee surgery. Wishing both of them a speedy recovery.
•Freshman Dorie Harrison set a career high with 16 points as UK beat Arkansas 76-65 last night on the road. The win brings Kentucky to 11-11 for the season.
•Blake Griffin will spend the rest of the winter not in sunny Los Angeles but in Detroit after being traded yesterday. Tobias Harris and Avery Bradley were the key players being sent to the Clippers. Griffin had just signed a five year deal last summer. Harris is a nice addition basketball wise, and this is Bradley’s second trade since having a career year with the Celtics last season. Have to wonder when the rest of the league will catch on to the fact that Celtics coach Brad Stevens tends to maximize players’ value, making them look better than they are.
•Rhonda Rousey, of MMA fame, will join WWE as a wrestler, effectively ending her MMA career. Pretty sure Holly Holm did that for her a couple years ago.
Life can come at you off the third turnbuckle. Stay safe out there.
