May the 4th be with you! Today’s theme today is (obviously) Star Wars. Our own Max Godby is celebrating today as this is a National Holiday. For me, on the other hand, it’s just a movie series I could never really enjoy nor understand the hoopla with. Let’s take a look at what has happened in the last 24 hours and May the Force be with you.

Senior-to-be defensive-end/linebacker Denzil Ware announced via Twitter he will transfer from Kentucky for his senior season. Ware is set to graduate from Kentucky this weekend, therefore he will be a graduate transfer and eligible to play immediately. While his reasoning for transferring is unknown, Ware has had an interesting history with UK over the past few months.

  • Suspended for the Music City Bowl (December 2017)
  • Announced he would return to Kentucky for his senior season despite some talk of transfer and or enter the NFL draft. (January 2018)
  • Announces transfer. (May 2018)

While the transfer on the surface seems surprising, deep down it’s not incredibly shocking. During last season rumblings suggested Ware may have been unhappy about a few things and was considering transferring. Coach Stoops and Ware had a man to man conversation and the issues seemed resolved. However, I do think he will be a hot commodity in the transfer market. Some schools that may be mentioned for Ware’s re-recruitment would be Oklahoma (Jeff Badet transferred there and was a roommate of Ware’s) Florida State (committed there while Stoops was the defensive coordinator but could still be a place he may consider) and the University of Southern California. USC was a school mentioned during last season as a possible destination for Ware if he had transferred after the bowl game.

Moving onto the roundball where Kentucky fans are watching 2019 point Tyrese Maxey recruitment closely. Maxey also announced via Twitter his plans to make his college commitment next Wednesday, May 9th at 4 pm. Kentucky seems to be the heavy favorite and for about the past month or so he has been mentioned as a possible recruit to reclassify into the 2018 recruiting class and join this upcoming Kentucky team. Ashton Hagans and Maxey are considered the number one and two point guards in the nation with a good possibility of both reclassifying and joining Kentucky’s 2018 recruiting class. Hagans has already committed to Kentucky. Needless to say, landing Maxey would be a HUGE get to Cal and the 2018 team.
